I often have clients come to me and belittle what design they already have. They say things like “this is really bad”, “I did a terrible job”, “I’m far too embarrassed to show you…” and obviously that’s what they come to me to fix – but they are putting themselves down!
If this is you and you have a business image that you’re not proud of, that you did yourself or that your friend sorted for you because they had five minutes and you didn’t – that’s ok. Especially in start up, because AT LEAST YOU HAVE SOMETHING. Some people still don’t have something. But you do. Isn’t that better?
The fact is that you don’t NEED a logo to start a business, but you might need a website or a leaflet right away and for whatever reason – it could be money, it could be time, it doesn’t matter – you DID something so that you would have something to give/show.
When the time comes that you’re ready to ask someone else to fix it for you – you’ll have something to spring from. You should be proud. When that time comes you’ll be able to see visually how you’ve grown, how your business has changed – and maybe you’ll be able to say “that served it’s purpose but I’m ready for better things now”.
Most of the time, it’s not even as bad as you think it is. I bet you’re not giving yourself the credit you deserve.
So if this is you – or was you – then think about how great it is that you stepped out and made SOMETHING – because if you hadn’t bothered then you might not be where you are now.
Some people never even take that first step.
