Getting started

Amy

February 15, 2015

Today, 5 years ago, was the first day my daughter started nursery and the first day I started working on Whiteacres Design. A week later I started “properly” and it’s been a fantastic journey 🙂

One of the first things I did was work on a name and a logo. I still have the name – the logo was truly awful! I think after 3 and a half months of maternity leave and baby brain and *rushing* to get it done (never a good idea) I did what a lot of people do and shoved something together quickly. Shocking really! Especially considering what I do and how I know that’s not the best way to go about it.

Thankfully I’ve revisited that since and am still very happy with what I have and feel that it’s waaaaay more in keeping with Whiteacres and me!

If you’re starting a business I honestly don’t always recommend rushing in right away with your brand design. It is totally possible to start a business without a logo or any idea on colours or a website or anything like that. Give yourself time to work out what your business is about, what you offer, who you offer it to, what you stand for, what’s important to you, why you do what you do – all the important questions – because you can bet that things will change from what you thought when you started to how they’ll end up. You don’t want to have a beautiful brand that you grow out of in no time. Give yourself a few weeks, maybe even a couple of months, to get these things worked out.

Then you’ll be ready to work on a business image that really fits. That attracts the right people. That you’re proud of. That tells people something about you without them having to go and read your about page.

To have a business image that compels people to want to work with YOU because you did things the right way.

Take your time. It’s not a race.
