We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit

Aristotle

I blogged just the other week about being consistent with your brand. The same font, the same colour, the same imagery, the same style… go and have a read. It’s about being memorable. Being repetitive = excellence.

What do you repeatedly do?

What actions do you take in your business?

I send emails three times a week. I blog weekly (this month it will be daily, because goals and brand are SO crucial) I post daily (ish) on Facebook and Instagram. I show up weekly in my Brand Success Club to help my members during their Office Hour. I host a monthly networking gathering. I journal daily. Sometimes more. These are consistent actions.

You might do the same or similar. You might do something completely different. You might want to think about.

Consistency is not just about how your brand looks or sharing the same message over and over – it’s also about the actions that you take regularly – on repeat – that help you get the results you want. Actions which require you to be brand consistent too – but which are more performance driven.

These can also come out in the way that you DO your thing. You may have a consistent process for creating your product or delivering your service. You may do things the same way each time because you know that way works. Malcolm Gladwell reckons it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in something. The point here is that excellence – expertness, excellent at doing Your Thing – is something that comes with experience. (Lots of ex words there!) Practice. Putting in the work. Doing Your Thing repeatedly.

To make an impact with your brand you need to stop worrying about the logo and the colours and the fonts and work with what you have so that you can step into your brand as an extension that goes BEYOND that. It’s your big ideas. It’s your goals. It’s your values. Your purpose. It’s YOU. And you get to carry that through everything you DO.

This is consistent branding in action.

Taking that strategy and implementing it in your day to day activities.

There are loads of things besides how your business looks that you might want to do repetitively in order to be excellent, or seen as excellent. Who doesn’t want to be seen as an expert in their field? Just the other day I saw a post on Facebook from a coach saying that a business magazine was going to promote her posts and she put the reason down to strategic daily activity.

Strategic daily activity = excellence.

What can you do daily, weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, twice a year, yearly – repeatedly – to help you achieve excellence?

Maybe you are going to write to your mailing list once a week?

Maybe you’re going to send a postcard to a prospect every single day?

Maybe you’re going to blog every week?

Maybe you’re going to spend ten minutes of each day meditating or journalling?

Or one hour of each day writing your book?

You may have seen one of the videos that show a teacher complimenting their students at the start of the school day – perhaps you could spend time each day making your staff feel special?

Perhaps you need to be more consistent with your social media or article writing?

Create weekly videos or monthly reports?

Have a review every month so you know where you’re at and can take control of the figures?

What regular habits are you going to form in 2023 that will help you to achieve excellence?
